More than a week ago, NASCAR Hall of Famer Jack Ingram was hospitalized after a serious car crash.

We later learned that Ingram suffered substantial injuries from the Dec. 3 crash and was in intensive care at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC, according to NBC Sports. His injuries consisted of five broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a puncture wound on his left side, internal bleeding and a damaged spleen that required surgery.

His family continues to post updates to the CaringBridge site that has been setup to keep family, friends, and fans updated on the status of Ingram. the latest update posted by the family seems to be the most optimistic yet. the post from his daughter Ingrid Jones reads as follows:

Hi, everyone.

Just a tiny update on Jack. Jack did develop a slight infection, and has been fighting that off with antibiotics. Today he was moved to an acute care facility. This means he’ll get much of the same care he got in ICU, but since ICU is meant to only house patients for the short term, this makes more sense for Jack because no one can really say for sure what his recovery may look like, time-wise.
The acute care facility will work to start decreasing his pain meds, over time, and put him on less narcotics and more simple analgesics (like really strong Tylenol, but without narcotics). Also they will continue his therapies, physical and occupational, as he’s able. It is still hard to know what his long-term health future will be, but we think his color looks really good, and we have no doubts that he has the will and determination to see this through. So if it is humanly possible for him to overcome, he will. I think we can all agree he’s not lazy. 😉
A continued THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, prayers and positive thoughts. We appreciate it so much.

We will continue to update the status of Ingram’s recovery as the details emerge.
