As they look to continue to revamp their competitive department, Hendrick Motorsports has named Alba Colon to oversee the team’s competition systems group.

Colon is a former engineer and auto racing program manager for General Motors and will be joining the organization later this month, according to NBC Sports.

The Puerto Rico native will work to enhance capabilities that support at-track competition according to a release from Hendrick Motorsports. The release also stated that her duties will include simulation programs, analytics platforms, data acquisition, communication technologies and at-track research and development. She will be taking over duties formerly held by Darian Grubb who has moved on, but will still be with the organization as crew chief for William Byron.

Colon had been with General Motors since 1994, where she was involved with the company’s racing ventures for the duration of her career, including the Oval Track Group, covering NASCAR’s three national series, GM’s NHRA program, drag racing programs and Chevrolet Racing’s NASCAR Cup Series where she was program manager from 2001 until her recent hiring at Hendrick.

Last season, Hendrick Motorsport drivers only managed four race wins and four stage wins on the season, while Martin Truex Jr. had eight wins and 19 stage wins on his own. Hopefully, the introduction of the new Chevy Camaro ZL1 will help the tides turn in the favor of the drivers at Hendrick
