We finally know the exact price you have to pay to own a Dodge Demon

How much would you pay to have the fastest production car to ever grace a drag strip? We already knew it had to be more than the Dodge Hellcat’s price of around $63,000, but can you really put a price on 840 horsepower? Of course you can, and it is thankfully less than you would pay for that power from a European automaker. All it will take to have your very own Demon is $84,995.

Yes, that is still a lot of money for a one trick pony, but when that one trick is being faster than any challengers down the 1/4 mile, it makes anything south of 100 grand an absolute steal. But that is the base price of this monster, and no buyer is going to risk being outclassed by another Demon owner when the whole point is to have the GOAT factory drag car. Great news then: Most of the must have upgrades cost all of one dollar.

One of these value options is the “Demon Crate” which includes drag wheels, a high flow air filter, jack, impact wrench, torque wrench, tire pressure gauge and most importantly, the race ECU that lets the car live up to its full potential on race fuel.  Others include the passenger seat, the rear seat and the trunk liner. Yes, each of these options cost less than the smallest box of fries at a fast food joint. They’ll even throw in a day of driving instruction for free!

There are the typical luxury-enhancing options that the dealer will only install after robbing you blind, but these options run counter to the point of the Demon, anyway. So, as long as the dealer doesn’t get too greedy with their cut, a properly spec’d Demon can be had for not too much higher than $85k even. We won’t get our hopes up for that, though.

If the surprisingly reasonable price isn’t enough to get you headed to your nearest dealer, here are five coolest things about the Demon via Dodge.com:

  • The engine is INSANE. A 6.6-liter supercharged V8 produces — get this — 840-hp, and goes 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds. The Hellcat, by way of example, has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 and goes 0-60 in 3.1 seconds.
  • The Dodge launch control really does make a sound straight from hell. When the Demon pulls up to the lights and engages its launch control, a strange ominous pulsating low pitched grumble is heard. It’s revving lower than most launch control systems, thanks to its immense torque, and sounds tame compared to what is about to erupt from the exhaust as the lights turn green.
  • Those tires are HUGE, and street legal. The Demon will be sitting on a set of custom 315/40R-18 Nitto drag radials that are sure to help it launch ahead like bolt of lightning. Still street legal, these radials offer 15% more contact with the road than the rubber under the Hellcat.
  • It runs on race fuel. Yep, race fuel. The Demon gets a dedicated High Octane mode to take advantage of 100+ octane unleaded race gas, and Dodge believes that will lead to huge changes in elapsed time.
  • It can rip through a quarter mile in 9.65 seconds at 140 mph.
