This driver won an ESPY for Best Driver in a shocking result

Two NASCAR drivers were nominated for the Best Driver ESPY, but neither of them won.

Jimmie Johnson was nominated after winning his seventh NASCAR Cup Series championship last season, and Martin Truex Jr. was nominated after winning four races last season and three this year.

But the winner of the Best Driver ESPY went to Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton.

The voting was conducted online, and Hamilton’s win is surprising considering Johnson just tied the record for most Cup Series championships.

Hamilton, a Mercedes driver and three-time Formula 1 champion, also defeated NHRA drag racer Ron Capps and IndyCar driver Simon Pagenaud.

Hamilton is certainly an accomplished driver, but it’s shocking to see him win after what Johnson accomplished last season. Johnson has won the award four times, but he hasn’t won the award since 2011.

Johnson already has three wins this season, and he has a chance to win his 8th championship this year. Perhaps that will be enough to win the Best Driver ESPY next season.
