Blaney wins XFINITY race, gives checkered flag to young fan

Here’s your feel-good story of the day.

For all that can be said about NASCAR drivers’ relationship with their fans, Ryan Blaney took it up a notch and now probably has a fan for life.

Ahead of running in Sunday’s Cup Series playoff race in Dover, Blaney drove the #22 Ford to victory in Saturday night’s XFINITY playoff race.

Then Blaney promptly took the checkered flag and slipped it under the fence to a young fan.

“He seemed really pumped up to be at the race,” Blaney said and reports USA Today. “There was a lot of kids here today, which is really cool. I kind of saw a little bit of myself. I was a little kid coming here and watching races. Anything we can to do to try to keep them coming back and show them a pretty great experience at the track. He looked like he wanted it and he was pretty happy when he got it.”

The 23-year-old Blaney is the son and grandson of race car drivers Dave Blaney and Lou Blaney. The act lit up social media shortly after the race.

Blaney starts 11th driving the #12 Penske Ford in the Monster Cup Series playoff race.
