Autonomous van was actually being driven by a guy in a seat costume

What would your reaction be to seeing a completely unmanned autonomous car driving down the street? Well, the folks at Virginia Tech Transportation Institute wanted to know the answer to that very question so they disguised a man with a car seat costume and went to town.

Adam toss, an NBC Washington reporter caught up with the van on Monday.

He was able to learn that this was indeed an autonomous car research experiment attempting to record the public’s reaction to a completely driverless car.

Although this all sounds like a pretty original idea there’s a good chance the team at Virginia Tech got the idea from this video.
